The former Huawei subsidiary Honor returns to Austria. Once labeled as a ‘cheap brand’, the company now wants to emerge as a premium manufacturer. A means to an end: the new flagship model Magic6 Pro. Krone+ tested it before the official start of sales.
Honor once made a name for itself in the shadow of parent company Huawei with cheap devices. Then came the ‘Google ban’ and with it the temporary end for the brand in Europe. Honor is now an independent company (see factbox) and has developed in just a few years: in China it is already just behind market leader Vivo and its former parent company Huawei in third place, and in Europe Honor was able to achieve success for the first time reach the top 5 most important smartphone manufacturers in the important Christmas quarter.
With premium technology for the same price, the group now wants to get back to work in this country and take important market shares from market leaders Apple, but especially Samsung. In addition to a cheaper Lite version, Honor also has its new flagship model Magic6 Pro in the baggage. Krone(+) has already tested the device, which was showered with prizes at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and shows where the strengths and weaknesses lie.
