A 35-year-old man from Villach was working alone on a machine housing in a production hall of a company in Paternion on Monday afternoon. That’s when the accident happened.
The housing stood with all four corners on wooden posts so as not to stand directly on the concrete floor. It was also secured upwards with an electric winch.
To gouse suddenly fell over
The man was moving an internal rotor using a manually operated cable winch when one of the wooden blocks split in the middle, probably due to the weight distribution. The casing fell to the ground on one side.
Colleagues became aware of the shouting
The casing, weighing approximately 16 tons, fell on both feet of the worker, who was standing in the casing at the time. The screams alerted colleagues to the incident and freed the 35-year-old after the enclosure was lifted using the electric winch.
The injured person was then flown to UKH Klagenfurt with the rescue helicopter “ALPIN 1”.
