A teenager from Vorarlberg suffered serious injuries while skiing in Mellau on Sunday. The 14-year-old fell 30 to 40 meters over steep and rocky terrain at the free ski area.
The boy actually wanted to ski with his “Figelskis” from the mountain station “Hohes Licht” in deep snow to Wildgunten. Fatally he strayed from the only possible descent and became lost on a steep slope full of sharp cliffs. To make matters worse, he also missed a rock edge and fell almost 40 meters. He was left seriously injured in the snow.
Called for help
Fortunately, the 14-year-old managed to use the last of his strength to call for help. He was then rescued by the rescue helicopter crew with a rope and flown to Feldkirch State Hospital. Several broken bones and a number of bruises were found there.
