The Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Hendrikhe announced in an address to the nation on Tuesday his resignationin the middle of the wave of violence which has escalated in recent days and prevented him from returning to the Caribbean country.
Henry’s government will remain in place to end the ‘pending affairs’ until the installation of a new Transitional Presidential Council and the appointment of a new Prime Minister. The parties have 24 hours to appoint their representative to this body, the Haitian leader has clarified, while calling for calm, the newspaper reported. Gazette Haiti.
“I want to thank the Haitian people for the opportunity they have given me to serve with integrity, wisdom and honesty (…). No sacrifice is too great for our country, Haiti,” he declared via a pre-recorded video. through their social networks.
Henry, who is currently stranded in Puerto Rico, regrets that for more than eleven weeks the country has been experiencing an increase in violent crimes that have affected the population through killings, attacks, looting and destruction of public and private buildings.
Hours earlier, the President of Guyana and the current President of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Irfaan Ali, had announced his resignation after an extraordinary session in Jamaica on the situation in Haiti with representatives of several countries.
