Engine on fire – Russian military plane crashes near Moscow

In Russia, an Ilyushin Il-76 military plane with fifteen people on board crashed not far from Moscow. The fate of the prisoners was initially unknown.

Apparently an incident occurred during the plane’s takeoff in the Ivanovo region. One of the four engines may have caught fire. This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency, citing the Ministry of Defense in Moscow. There would have been eight crew members and seven passengers on board.

A video purporting to show the accident machine immediately circulated on social media. The aircraft is in a rapid descent. The machine leaves a thick trail of smoke before falling to the ground.

The cause of the crash was a fire in one of the engines during the plane’s takeoff. According to the report, a commission from the Main Command of the Russian Air Force flies to Ivanovo airport.

The last time an Il-76 crashed was in January over the Russian border region of Belgorod. According to Russian information, the plane was shot down by a missile from the Ukrainian side. According to Moscow, 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war were on the plane being transported for exchange and were killed.
