“Would be a war” – Russian parliament warns against delivery of Taurus

Date:

Before the new vote on the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, the tone in the German coalition is becoming increasingly tense. On Tuesday, SPD faction leader Rolf Mützenich called on coalition partners FDP and the Greens to impose consequences on MPs who support a proposal by the opposition CDU/CSU for the supply of cruise missiles. Meanwhile, the Russian parliament warns against a further expansion of the military conflict.

Such developments could lead to Germany entering the war and the Bundestag must counter this, according to an appeal published on Tuesday by the State Duma in Moscow. In the ‘Two Plus Four Treaty’ of 1990, Germany promised itself ‘that only peace will come from German soil’.

Horror among the Russian population
On the other hand, the recently published conversation between German officers and German air force inspector Ingo Gerhartz about a possible Taurus deployment against Russian targets shows that there is a danger here. Russia published the intercepted conversation, which led to great outrage among the population in its own country.

“Tradition of Hitler’s Luftwaffe”
“In the tradition of Hitler’s air force, the military commander is only concerned about how to conceal the complicity of the German armed forces in the planned crimes of the Kiev regime,” the unanimously adopted statement said. It is not about “possible casualties among the Russian civilian population or the humanitarian consequences of the destruction of the Crimean Bridge” for the millions of inhabitants of the peninsula, but only about how the accusations against the Germans could be avoided.

The Bundestag will vote on the Union motion by name on Thursday. The leaders of the FDP and the Greens confirmed on Tuesday that their groups are in favor of a delivery of Taurus. They still refused to accept the Union’s proposal because they consider it a tactical game. Ukraine submitted a request in May last year for the supply of the cruise missiles with a range of 500 kilometers. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) rejects the proposal because he fears it will drag Germany into war.
