On Monday morning, the farmers’ protests against agricultural policy in our German neighbors had already led to the first disruptions. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, for example, farmers across the country blocked highway entrances with hundreds of tractors.
They were supported by freight forwarding companies protesting against the increase in truck tolls. In the Cloppenburg district in northwest Lower Saxony, a national highway was blocked by forty vehicles.
In Saxony, according to the police, some highway entrances in the Dresden area were unusable. Meetings are held on the A4, A13, A14 and A17 motorways. Early in the morning the situation in Berlin was initially calm. The first tractors had been at the Brandenburg Gate since Sunday evening.
Protest against the abolition of subsidies
The farmers’ association has called for a week of action to demonstrate against the abolition of subsidies for the industry. The main issue is the tax credit for agricultural diesel. A partial withdrawal of the federal government’s austerity plans is not sufficient for the association.
