A 26-year-old found a mobile phone in a bar in Sölden, Tyrol this weekend. But instead of turning it in to the police, a lost property or simply to the waiter, he then demanded a four-figure finder’s fee. However, the owner went to the police, who were able to locate the smartphone via the search function app. Charges are now being filed against the 26-year-old.
On Sunday evening, the 26-year-old Austrian found the smartphone in a bar in Sölden (Imst district), which he then tried to embezzle. “After the owner of the phone offered a finder’s reward, the 26-year-old contacted the person who had lost the item by telephone and demanded a four-digit dollar amount,” police said. He also threatened to destroy the phone if the owner did not pay.
The 26-year-old is said to be free
But the owner of the mobile phone did not pay and went to the police. The smartphone was located using the search function app. The cell phone was eventually seized from the 26-year-old’s apartment. “The suspect will be reported to the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office if he is at large,” the executive stressed.
