A column of fire hit the sky near the B311 in Weißbach near Lofer on Wednesday afternoon. Reason: a burning vehicle. The driver was able to save himself in time.
The driver, a resident (61), had noticed light smoke coming from the trunk of his hybrid car. As the smoke thickened, he stopped the vehicle and left. According to the police report, it was completely engulfed in flames shortly afterwards. The fire brigades from Weißbach and St. Martin near Lofer rushed to the scene of the fire with three vehicles and 18 people.
They tried to extinguish the hybrid car, but in vain. The car was on fire. Due to the operation, the Pinzgauer Bundesstrasse was closed for half an hour. There were no injuries. Further investigations are ongoing, police said.
