Dramatic scenes took place in the neighboring canton of St. Gallen on Tuesday afternoon. On the H16 ring road in Wattwil, a 43-year-old driver crashed head-on into an oncoming truck, but all help came too late for the woman. She died at the scene of the accident.
When the two vehicles collided shortly before the Wattwil tunnel, the impact was so violent that the car flew into the meadow on the right of the road. The truck also left the road. He slid across the oncoming lane and stopped on an embankment.
While the truck driver (28) survived the collision unharmed, rescuers were only able to determine that the 43-year-old Swiss woman, who lived in the canton of St. Gallen, was dead.
The cause of the accident is unclear. Based on current knowledge, the driver assumes that the car ended up halfway along the path of the truck. The cantonal police of St. Gallen, under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office, are investigating the exact course of the accident. The forensic competence center of the St. Gallen cantonal police was tasked with securing evidence.
In addition to several patrols and specialists from the St. Gallen cantonal police, the responsible fire brigade, the rescue service and a public prosecutor were present
