Children injured – Suspect from Duisburg was considered a person at risk

Date:

At the end of February, a 21-year-old in Duisburg is said to have seriously injured two primary school children with a knife. Now it became known that the young man was already known to the authorities. According to a report to the Home Commission, he had been classified as a person at potential risk for several months last year.

In February 2023, he told a doctor that he was planning an act of violence against his own mother. He was then entered into the Periscope early warning (people at potential risk) system, it is said. After an interim reconciliation and then a non-violent coexistence with his mother, he was reclassified as a person at risk in October 2023. In January 2024, two cases of violence against his mother were finally announced.

It is said that he announced a murder
The man is also said to have announced a murder in a chat to a witness in Bavaria. However, the police in Duisburg did not receive this information in time. “According to the current reporting situation, we did not have any information,” said Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) from North Rhine-Westphalia. In any case, an investigating judge wanted to reach the police by telephone and inform them. Why this did not work is currently being investigated.

The violent 21-year-old is suspected of attempting to murder two primary school children at the end of February (see video above). The children, aged nine and ten, were seriously injured by knife wounds. They managed to escape to a nearby school.
