Although it is known that Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin is not averse to splendor, his people will have to show their loyalty to him this weekend in shabby huts. With their heads bowed, people fight their way through cheap plastic – in spaces reminiscent of public toilets.
Overly kitschy propaganda events, strange war exhibitions in museums and huge military parades have characterized recent years. Presidential elections are now taking place in the world’s largest country from Friday to Sunday. However, they do not provide a particularly good picture. In dilapidated, tiled rooms, Russians are called on to cast their votes.
Ironically, these are photos that very authentically illustrate the average living standards of poor people. The Kremlin does not actually want to admit that its own people are being treated poorly.
