Dangerous scenes took place on the airport highway near Schwechat in Lower Austria: Shortly before 8 a.m., thick smoke suddenly came from the engine compartment of a car. The driver responded quickly and correctly – and he was not the only one!
When the driver noticed the smoke on Friday morning, he immediately parked his car on the emergency lane. Not a second too soon! As soon as it came to a stop, flames sprang from the engine compartment of the vehicle. Brave emergency workers also noticed this fire and rushed to help a few moments later.

Among them was Schwechat firefighter Alexander Paulus: “On the way to work I saw a column of smoke. In collaboration with other emergency services, we responded quickly and extinguished the fire with the fire extinguishers from our private car. We were able to prevent the flames from spreading further and the vehicle from completely burning out!”
Just a few minutes later, the Schwechat and Mannswörth volunteer fire brigades were called to the vehicle fire on the A4. However, due to the dedicated intervention of the first aiders, the work of the uninformed comrades was limited to recovering the vehicle.
