Domestic investigators achieved a “historic success” in the fight against narcotics: nine suspects were arrested and a drug laboratory was uncovered in the Baden district.
The ‘snow’ reported by the European authorities – the ‘Krone’ – is worth approximately 14 million euros. The drug investigators from the Lower Austrian Criminal Police, together with the Federal Criminal Police and German, Czech and Slovak colleagues, succeeded.
“Historic success”
During a routine check at the port of Hamburg, 17 pallets containing 115 wooden planks were discovered on a cargo ship from Bolivia. There were packets of cocaine in the floorboards. The drugs were seized and the container was sent on – under strict supervision.
“Everything the police and the Code of Criminal Procedure had to offer was deployed and exhausted,” says LKA boss Stefan Pfandler. Four Serbs between the ages of 33 and 65 were tracked down and arrested in Vienna and Hainburg. They have already been sentenced to prison terms of several years. In addition to five other perpetrators (four Serbs and one Austrian), a drug laboratory in Kottingbrunn (Baden district) was also robbed. This is where the cocaine base was prepared for sale. A tenth suspect is on the run.
Investigators also arrested a 50-year-old “drug lord.” She is said to be responsible for smuggling 50 kilos of cocaine for five million euros. “By securing it, a historic success was achieved,” Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said.
