There are some unmistakable signs that spring has returned to the Austrian capital. In addition to the flowering trees, the no longer mud-brown meadows and the slow repopulation of the Danube Island, the opening of the season in the Schweizerhaus is also part of it. The ‘crown’ was there.
Even before the green gate opened, a crowd of people had already formed and there was clearly a big appetite for beer and stilts. The seats were quickly filled and the waiters were busy providing drinks and food for the cheerful guests.
What the Krügerl costs this year
In good spirits and nice weather, several celebrities, including cathedral priest Toni Faber, physicist Werner Gruber and “Wiesn-Schurli” Georg Mayrhofer, also enjoyed the Budweiser. You have to pay a little more for the Krügerl this year, but the increase was small.
While the large light or mixed product cost 5.60 euros last year (40 cents more than in 2022 due to record inflation), this year it remains below the magic limit of six euros. At 5.90 euros for half a liter of barley juice, the increase this time is 30 cents or 5.2 percent – also for the other items on the drinks and menu – far below annual inflation.
Season until October 31, 2024
The visitors to the season opening were certainly not impressed by this. The operating family around Karl Kolarik and the Schweizerhaus team welcome guests until October 31.
