Notruf NÖ is the first control center in Austria to use software that allows dispatchers to ‘see’ directly at the scene of the accident. However, it should not only be used in case of accidents, but also for health advice.
When it comes to human life, every second counts, as we know from Emergency Call NÖ. Sometimes, however, an on-site photo is crucial to take targeted measures. The “Emergency Eye” software offers dispatchers exactly this option. Anyone who calls 144 can voluntarily grant access to their mobile phone upon request and thus provide live insight. “It is another breakthrough in emergency communication,” emphasizes State Councilor Christoph Luisser.
“Results are difficult”
But the system, which is being used for the first time in Lower Austria, is not only intended to help in emergency situations. Its use is also planned for the health hotline 1450. “Problems are often difficult to explain over the telephone. “It is complicated to describe the rash,” says Christian Fohringer, director of Notruf-NÖ. “In this way, an image can be used to decide whether medical treatment is necessary at all,” says State Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, who sees this as a reduction in the burden on doctors.
Another advantage of the new software: it also enables a chat function that can translate many more than twelve languages. “In this way, language barriers can be overcome,” emphasizes Notruf-NÖ director Josef Schmoll.
Active consent
According to those responsible, the concerns about data protection are unfounded. “The mobile phone user must actively agree that the dispatchers have access to the mobile phone,” Luisser explains. The caller then receives a text message that he must confirm. Only then can emergency call NÖ use the camera. “No videos or images are stored and there is a log of exactly what was done on the mobile phone. The owner can request this directly,” Schmoll explains
