Good luck for a couple from Western Styria: the family dog noticed a kitchen fire on Sunday evening and alerted the owners.
Around 9 p.m., a 67-year-old from Wies (Deutschlandsberg district) wanted to prepare food at her home, she put grease on the stove and turned it on. Then she went to the living room to watch TV. She must have fallen asleep.
The dog probably noticed smoke in the kitchen and alerted its owner. The woman from Styria was able to extinguish the fire herself and then informed her daughter-in-law, who alerted the emergency services. The Wernersdorf fire brigade only had to carry out additional security work. The 67-year-old and her 70-year-old husband, who was already asleep, were taken to LKH Deutschlandsberg with suspected smoke poisoning. The golden retriever was unharmed. There was unknown damage to the kitchen at this time.
