They denounce “the recurrence and increase in severity” of physical and verbal attacks on workers, against whom more than 2,500 workers have been called to mobilize.
Bizkaibus and Euskotren staff are called to strike on Tuesday the 19th due to the increase in physical and verbal attacks on public transport. In total, the call affects more than 2,500 employees of these two companies.
In addition to the strike, a demonstration is planned to start at 8 a.m. from the EiTB headquarters in Bilbao, while there will be a rally at 11:30 a.m. at Plaza Easo in Donostia/San Sebastián.
Labor unions UGT, DE A, CCOO, USAGE And LABORATORY called one 24-hour strike in Bizkaibus on March 19what they are called to do more than 1,300 Bizkaibus employeesaround the “repetition” of physical and verbal attacks on employeesas well as the “increase in severity” of these types of acts.
The unions have reported that they have been denouncing the “increase in physical attacks” and the “normalization of insults” as well as the “disrespect” for “years”.
The union representation has confirmed that they experience situations “far removed from the public service that Bizkaibus employees provide 365 days a year.”
In this sense, they have asked for “respect” to be able to go to work “and serve the millions of users they transport every year,” while at the same time thanking “the daily support and respect of virtually all of them.”
However, they have acknowledged that they are witnessing ‘with concern’ the increase in situations that ‘make it difficult for employees to get to work safely’.
In this sense, they have assured that for some time they have been asking for “socialization campaigns, respect, but also human resources, new technologies and actions that minimize these possible situations that arise”, by providing coverage to professionals who are on the streets every day standing, guaranteeing the safety” of public transport and those who provide it.
Euskotren staff have joined the strike called by Bizkaibus on Tuesday to denounce the “recurrence” of physical and verbal attacks on workers, as well as the “increase in severity” of such acts. The unions ELA, LAB, CCOO, UGT and CGT-ESK have unanimously decided to join the protest.
