A mural that appeared in London’s Finsbury Park district sparked speculation in the British capital last weekend. On Monday, a post on Instagram called for an end to this: Street artist Banksy is responsible for the artwork…
The greenery is sprayed on a white house wall behind a bare tree and gives the viewer – viewed from the right angle – the impression that the tree is green. At the bottom left of the photo you also see a woman with a sprinkler in her hand – in the style of the famous street artist.
Confirmation from Banksy on Instagram
The BBC quoted radio presenter and Banksy expert James Peak as saying the work was “definitely” a Banksy work. He had already drawn attention to the painting on the house wall on Sunday. The fact that Banksy posted a photo of the tree in front of the white wall on Instagram on Monday without comment is all but confirmation that the photo actually came from him.
Banksy’s exact identity is unknown
Banksy is believed to be from the western English city of Bristol, but his exact identity is unknown. In his works he repeatedly addresses social injustices. In November 2022, he caused a stir with a slew of photos of war-damaged houses in Ukraine.
His works, which always cause a stir, now fetch millions at auction. Banksy himself has repeatedly criticized the traditional art world with museums and galleries.
