Within a narrow corridor stretching from Mexico through the US states of Texas and Maine to eastern Canada (see below), on April 8 people will witness the moon move in front of the sun for a few minutes, bringing the day into night changes. While the completely eclipsed sun shines about as brightly as a full moon and can therefore be safely viewed with the naked eye, the phases before and after the total solar eclipse definitely require special eye protection – and interested parties should not purchase these from Amazon, eBay, Temu and other online retailers are warning the American Astronomical Society (AAS).
