“Particularly large” – North Korea’s army presented new rocket launchers

Date:

The North Korean military has presented “newly equipped, particularly large” rocket launchers. The weapon must be capable of being equipped with a tactical nuclear explosive. The exercises, which would test the “real war capabilities” of the multiple rocket launchers, were overseen by ruler Kim Jong Un.

According to the South Korean Yonhap news agency, it is an example of the system called the KN-25 by the military in Seoul and Washington, which fires the short-range ballistic missiles of the same name. South Korea’s military said on Sunday it had recorded the launch of several missiles by North Korea during a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Weapons need to be further developed
Kim has already said he wants to further develop weapons, including tactical nuclear weapons. The now presented multiple rocket launcher should also be able to be equipped with a tactical nuclear explosive. The South Korean military subsequently intensified cooperation with the US military.

Last week, the two ended their joint military exercise ‘Freedom Shield’, which included missile interceptions and air strikes. Kim saw this as an opportunity to present a new tank on the last day of the maneuver. During the presentation, the ruler himself got behind the wheel. His administration had previously said the US and South Korean governments would pay a “high price” for their exercises.
