As reported, an 84-year-old man in Bad Blumau suffered serious burns on Tuesday after a petrol can was set on fire while refueling his car in a garage. As the police have now announced, the Eastern Styrian succumbed to his serious injuries.
A tank accident was fatal for an 84-year-old from Bad Blumau in eastern Styria on Tuesday afternoon. As reported, the man wanted to refuel his car in his own garage when the fuel in the jerry can caught fire and the flames spread to him.
The cause is clear
The 84-year-old was flown by helicopter to LKH Graz. The police announced on Wednesday that he succumbed to his serious burns there that afternoon. The fire was most likely caused by an “electrostatic discharge of gasoline and gasoline vapors,” Styrian state police said.
Negligence of third parties is excluded. The victim’s 53-year-old son heard his father’s cries for help, then extinguished the fire and called the emergency services.
