Outdoor cats live on dangerous paws in Parndorf, Burgenland. An unknown person shot the family cat ‘Cosmo’ with a shotgun – apparently at close range. The animal does not stand alone.
When ‘Cosmo’ didn’t come home that evening after going out, her family became concerned: the cat was found apathetic and covered in blood in the garage the next day. “She must have been in tremendous pain. We immediately took her to the animal clinic,” says the shocked owner.
Shot with a shotgun
The suspicion that the cat had a gunshot wound became certain after X-rays at the veterinary clinic: “Cosmo” was shot with a shotgun.
The problem appears to be known locally. Because ‘Cosmo’ is not an isolated case. Only recently did the release of two other velvet paws prove fatal: they succumbed to their gunshot wounds.
“In such a densely populated residential area, many households have pet cats that are allowed to roam freely in the area. But also people who don’t like animals,” says a concerned cat lover. In addition, a hunter may shoot a cat if it is more than 300 meters from the nearest inhabited home.
Animal corner “Krone” helps with veterinary costs
“Cosmo” was apparently deliberately shot in the back. She has been treated at the veterinary clinic for days and the costs continue to rise. In this case, our animal corner “Krone” has a guaranteed support of 1200 euros. To fund the treatment of her beloved four-legged friend, the desperate cat owner has launched an appeal for donations.
You can receive information about the “Cosmo” case from the “Krone” animal corner (also anonymously) by telephone on 057060 23317 or by e-mail.
