In Pöcking in Upper Bavaria, a train carrying about 250 passengers crashed into a fallen tree. As police announced on Friday, a traveler was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack. The other passengers were unharmed. The train was no longer roadworthy.
According to reports, a 64-year-old man felled at least one tree near the railway, which then fell on the overhead wires and the track. Despite heavy braking, the driver was unable to avoid a collision.
Because the tree pushed the overhead line onto the train, it was under tension. A railway emergency manager had to ground the train before it was driven back to Starnberg station. The 250 travelers could get off there.
The route between Starnberg and Tutzing was completely closed for four hours. The damage is estimated at approximately 35,000 euros. The German Federal Police is now investigating dangerous disruptions to train traffic.
