At least five people have been injured by gunfire at an American cemetery. Police in the small town of Racine, Wisconsin, reported on Twitter on Thursday that “multiple shots were fired” at the cemetery.
There would be the funeral of an African-American man who was shot dead during a police check in late May. Relatives said on local television that members of the mourners had been injured.
Da’Shontay King, an African American, was shot and killed by police on May 20 after a police check. He fled after being seen before with a firearm in hand. He was going to be buried in Graceland Cemetery in Racine, a small town about 45 miles east of Milwaukee, when the shots were fired.
Thursday’s incident came just a day after another attack at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in which a man killed four people. Just over a week earlier, an 18-year-old had shot and killed 19 children and two teachers in a massacre at a Texas elementary school.
Following the renewed massacre at schools, members of the US Senate are currently preparing a mild tightening of lax gun laws.
