On Tuesday afternoon, a 61-year-old crashed through the fence and thuja hedge of a single-family home in St. Peter im Sulmtal in western Styria and ended up with her car in the swimming pool. The trigger for the wild ride was microsleep. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
The 61-year-old was driving on Sulmtal-Straße (B74) on Tuesday afternoon around 1.20 pm when her eyes closed. She left the road to the right and drove over a street pole and through the thuja hedge of a single-family home. She crashed through the gate and ended up in the property’s swimming pool.
An image of devastation
It must have been a shock to the family who lived there. The force of the vehicle ripped the fence out of the ground and destroyed the pool. The car’s airbags were also deployed.
Woman only slightly injured
The woman from the Deutschlandsberg district was slightly injured and was taken to LKH Weststeiermark. Both the car and the swimming pool that had been set up were totaled. 15 emergency services from the fire brigades of St. Peter im Sulmtal and Deutschlandsberg joined forces to save the vehicle. It was lifted from the site using a crane.
