An eight-year-old girl was sucked into a pipe in a Houston hotel pool and drowned. The girl’s mother has now filed a lawsuit, American media reported on Tuesday (local time). The child was “forcibly sucked into an unsecured 30 to 40 centimeter opening in the pool’s flow system,” according to the lawsuit, which was published by US media. The accident happened on Saturday.
The family rented a room in the hotel in the American state of Texas to spend a day swimming together. The girl suddenly disappeared in the afternoon. The mother was desperate to find her daughter Aliyah Jaico and asked the hotel to look at the surveillance camera footage. However, the video material was only viewed after the woman reported the child missing to the police.
Pool system was apparently defective
The video footage showed the girl sinking into the pool and not resurfacing. The eight-year-old’s body was only recovered the next day after an operation lasting several hours, American media report.
It was discovered in the “pipes of the defective pool system,” according to the lawsuit. The mother is therefore demanding damages of over one million dollars (about 924,000 euros).
