Grief and horror among the Dornbirn family after a cowardly attack on the little furry friend. City police continue to search for the perpetrator, who shot the defenseless animal at least once with an air pistol and seriously injured it.
The owners of tomcat “Leo” are deeply saddened. Unknown animal abusers shot the one-year-old animal with an air rifle in the center of Dornbirn on Sunday. The four-legged friend dragged himself seriously injured onto the driveway on Marktstrasse in Dornbirn. “Our neighbor found the cat there and immediately took it to the vet in Lustenau. At first we assumed that someone had hit our ‘Lion’ because its hind legs were completely shattered,” reports the mother of the little girl who owned the cat.
Only at the vet did it become clear that the fur nose had not been damaged in any way. On the contrary: the police assume that ‘Leo’ was shot with an air pistol.
Serious injuries to the hind legs
Since no one heard a loud bang, it was probably a quieter air rifle. The projectiles also cause greater damage. The extent of the young cat’s injury was revealed during surgery. “The vet wanted to attach a plate with screws, but there were no bones left to attach the screws to,” the owners say.
The operation on the hind legs was still successful. The young owner was even allowed to take the animal home with him, so that it could recover from the serious procedure in a familiar environment. The little tomcat survived the first night, but after the second night the furry friend was dead in the basket.
“Our daughter is of course heartbroken. And she still believes that ‘Leo’ was accidentally hit by a motorist.” The little one’s parents wouldn’t reveal that it was actually an animal killer who deliberately seriously injured and killed ‘Leo’.
It would certainly be in their interest that the perpetrator is caught. After all, he shot in broad daylight in the middle of the city and near a kindergarten.
