Another fatal forest accident, this time in Nitscha: On Wednesday afternoon, a 59-year-old from the Weiz district was hit by a tree while doing woodwork. All help came too late for the man.
A 36-year-old and a 30-year-old, both of whom, like the later victim, come from the Weiz district, were doing forestry work in a forest. The 59-year-old wanted to help the two men – one of whom is related – and went into the forest with a chainsaw and in work clothes shortly before 3 p.m. The forest is close to the man’s house.
Tree torn from the ground
At the time, the two younger men were in the process of completely felling a pine tree when the crown of an adjacent beech tree became entangled in the pine tree. The beech was torn from the ground and fell on the 59-year-old.
Despite medical assistance and the deployment of the C12 emergency medical helicopter, only the death of the 59-year-old could be determined. The police are investigating negligent homicide.
