A train derailed Friday afternoon at Burgrain in the German district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the border with Austria. Many have been seriously injured and killed.
“It is a major operation that is underway at the moment,” said a spokesman for the police station in Upper Bavaria South. Wagons also tipped over. A spokesman for the integrated control center in the Oberland said several injured people have been taken to hospital. In the meantime, the German media is talking about at least three deaths.
The train blocked the route between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberau. Trains from Munich run early in Oberau. From the direction of Mittenwald, the trains turn early in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Replacement traffic is being planned, Twitter said.
