95 people are still missing! – Terror in Moscow: is the death toll much higher?

Date:

It’s been almost a week since the devastating terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall near Moscow. So far, 143 deaths have been confirmed, the number of injured is estimated at 360. However, 95 people are still missing. They are not listed among the dead or among the injured. Their relatives search and fear… And despair of the system.

Dmitri searches with all his might for his brother Oleg. On the evening of the attack, he was at the Piknik concert with his wife and 19-year-old daughter. They were sitting right at the front, somewhere in the front rows, when the terrorists started shooting, Dmitri tells the BBC. Oleg was hit in the back as he stood protectively in front of his family. The woman was able to use all her strength to lift her daughter, who was also injured by a bullet, outside, the Russian said. But there is still no trace of Oleg.

His girlfriend Alexandra supports him in his quest. She complains to the BBC about a real ‘information chaos’. The information in the hospitals is very different and confusing. With great regret, volunteers sent them a video in which a terrorist kills a man who, according to the description, looks like Oleg. However, Dmitri did not recognize him in it. Now it’s time to wait. Wait for official information to arrive at some point. However, so far they have not even been offered a DNA test.

Volunteers give a lot of hope
However, Alexandra was deeply touched by the efforts of volunteers. “People are reacting as if this is our shared tragedy,” she says. You feel reliability, coherence and unity. This gives her “great hope that perhaps all is not lost for us… All is not yet lost. But without this support we would be struggling right now.”

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry announced on Tuesday that search and rescue work for the victims of the terrorist attack had been completed. However, according to the Telegram channel “Baza”, 95 people are still missing.

Painful waiting and fear
Danila is still looking for his 30-year-old brother Dmitri. A few hours before the attack, he called his mother and said he was going to the concert, Danila told the BBC. He hasn’t contacted me since. The responsible authorities and hospitals could not have helped. Investigators contacted him Thursday and asked him to come by to identify the deceased. But his brother was not among the dead. At least one DNA sample was taken. “They wouldn’t let us help with the clean-up work, but there were no more unidentified deceased people there. They told me that I now had to wait… And hope,” Danila sighs.
