On the twentieth anniversary of his death – herbal priest: God’s pharmacy for eternity

Date:

On the twentieth anniversary of the death of herb priest Weidinger: his life for God, medicine and the “crown”.

“My predecessor Hermann-Josef Weidinger, who was so inspired by good, entered the heavenly abode almost exactly twenty years ago, on March 21. “This was and is the feast day on which the Benedictine abbeys commemorate the death of their monk father every year,” recalls our current “Krone” herbal priest Benedikt Felsinger. This order has always been inextricably linked to the development of European monastic medicine and medicine in general. Perhaps the most brilliant example for Mr. Benedict: the monastery of Monte Cassino, which was fiercely contested and largely destroyed in the Second World War, already had an important medical school in Salerno in the 11th century, from which one of the first universities in the continent emerged.

The oldest pharmacopoeia dates from the 13th century
In Germany, on the other hand, the oldest pharmacopoeia consists of the former monastery in Lorsch in Hesse, which has been preserved to this day. “From the 13th century, Lorsch became a Premonstratensian abbey, within whose walls the tradition of the Benedictines who used to work here was preserved,” says Felsinger, who in turn carries the legacy of his brother Hermann-Josef in his heart.

During his earthly existence, our first flower health columnist floated over the meadows and fields surrounding his Geras Monastery in the far north of Lower Austria. Here in the Waldviertel and in the typical strip corridors, he collected many medicinal herbs from God’s pharmacy out of “respect for the Creator”. Of course, this is a coin from the healer in religious robes. To this day, what has been handed down represents a valuable treasure of healthcare. “I can fully draw from it,” says Benedikt Felsinger gratefully.

Hans Dichand maintained a close friendship with Mönch
The fact that Weidinger has been able to bring the wonders of nature closer to the readers of “Krone” – not without forgetting the needs of people’s bodies and souls – is thanks to our founder Hans Dichand, who was a visionary in so many things. Because the legendary newspaper maker offered the then herbal priest a daily column. He was able to pass on his wisdom as a reservoir of knowledge and almost infinite goodness of heart all the better, because his almost 16-year stay in the Middle Kingdom allowed him to gain life experience and knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. a missionary.

“We want to continue our work”
Who else than our current herb priest could appreciate this better: “The fact that it is now natural to sympathize with nature is thanks to the dedicated work of Hermann-Josef. We want to continue that. Because herbs and health are both great gifts from God that should enable us to live gratefully.”

It is precisely this legacy that should make today’s challenges possible, such as healthcare, living close to nature and contributing to a peaceful and heavenly unspoilt world. Also a request from Hans Dichand…
