After an arson attack on a Viennese police car at the beginning of this year, a suspect has now been identified. The man is also said to be responsible for a new arson at a gas station. The 25-year-old suffers from a mental illness.
On January 3, an alert passerby noticed that a parked police car was on fire in front of the inspection on Billrothstrasse and immediately raised the alarm. As reported, an unknown person had placed a burning object in the wheel arch.
DNA led to suspect
DNA was seized as part of the investigation into serious material damage. This could now be attributed to the 25-year-old. The man is already known to authorities and is currently in hospital due to his mental illness. An interview has therefore not yet been possible.
In any case, investigators assume that the Austrian national is also responsible for a fire at a gas station in Döbling on January 7. At that time, clothing was set on fire at a gas pump, damaging it.
