A serious accident in Bocksdorf in the Güssing district caused a major alarm on Holy Saturday. During a transport, a motorist’s horse trailer ended up on the verge and fell over the dike.
The accident happened in the morning for reasons that are still unclear. The horse trailer overturned twice. The two Lipizzaners in the car were trapped under the rubble.
Supported by comrades from Stegersbach, the firefighters left Bocksdorf. 35 men were deployed to rescue the injured horses. Saving the animals required great sensitivity.
Both horses injured
The animals had suffered cuts and their circulatory system was in danger of collapsing. Veterinarian Christoph Haller from Markt Allhau provided first aid quickly and professionally: “Fortunately, the consequences were manageable. Much more could have been done in this serious accident.”
When the horses were back on their feet, the emergency services breathed a sigh of relief. Both Lipizzaners, aged ten and twenty, were taken to the veterinary clinic in Kottingbrunn in the Baden district (Lower Austria) for further medical care.
