Middle East War – Multiple deaths again during the distribution of relief supplies

Date:

More deaths and injuries are reported to have occurred during the distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported gunfire and mass panic on Saturday. At least five people were killed and thirty others were injured.

On Saturday morning, thousands of people gathered at a roundabout in Gaza before about fifteen loaded trucks arrived. Eyewitnesses reported shots being fired into the air by people tasked with overseeing the distribution. Israeli troops are also said to have fired. Other people were hit by trucks while trying to get food.

Video footage shows a convoy of trucks speeding past burning rubble near the distribution point in the dark, as gunfire and shouts can be heard. The Israeli military said it had no information about the incident.

Help from Cyprus on the way
The roundabout in Gaza has been the scene of several deadly incidents in recent weeks during the distribution of aid. Last Saturday, a shipment from Cyprus found its way to Palestinian territory. The American aid organization World Central Kitchen and the Spanish aid organization Open Arms want to transport almost 400 tons of aid to the war zone in this way. The ship transports rice, pasta, flour, legumes and canned goods. In mid-March, 200 tons of aid arrived in the Gaza Strip from the two aid organizations, and the Israeli army supervised the unloading.

The freighter “Jennifer” and two tugboats will be on the road for approximately 65 hours. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), healthcare in the Gaza Strip is no longer guaranteed. “About 9,000 patients urgently need to be taken abroad to receive life-saving care,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Platform

The Israeli government accuses the radical Islamist group Hamas of having military bases under hospitals and using civilians as human shields. That is why military operations are carried out in hospitals (see video above).
