The fire brigade rescued a four-year-old child from a well in Maissau (Hollarunn district) on Saturday. It had fallen into the shaft, which was about six to seven meters deep. A member of the fire department approached the boy and pulled him up in a sling.
The helpers were alerted on Saturday afternoon. The message was “Child in fountain – four years old,” the District Fire Command Hollabrunn (Lower Austria) said in a broadcast. Upon arrival, the injured child was contacted immediately. “Emergency services attempted to calm the brave boy,” it said.
This is what the shaft from which the boy had to be freed looks like.
Because rescue via a ladder was not possible, a crane arm was used and a fire brigade member abseiled to the little Lower Austrian. “Brief first aid was provided while they were still in the pit,” says operations manager Klemens Kaltenbrunner.
There are more than 50 firefighters present
More than 50 members of the fire brigade with ten vehicles, police and rescue services were present. The cooperation was “really excellent,” said section fire chief Josef Baumeister. The four-year-old child was flown to a hospital for further examination.
