Search continues – pilots fear missing small planes

Date:

There is still no trace of the Cessna, which has been missing since Saturday afternoon. Austro Control last had contact with the small aircraft above the Ötztal. Apparently only the pilot was on board. The weather conditions and the dust from the Sahara make the search difficult.

According to police, that Cessna was en route from Rome to an airport in Germany. On the route, the pilot, who was probably alone in the small plane, probably flew over the 3,000-meter peaks of the Ötztal. Contact with Austria Control was lost there around 11.45 am.

Search on Saturday was unsuccessful
A search was then launched. However, this was made difficult by the strong winds and dust from the Sahara. “Two helicopters were only able to fly briefly during the search,” a police spokesperson explains.

The search is also in full swing on Sunday morning, as Austro Control explained to the Tyrolean “Krone”: “We are in the middle of the investigation.” The search will now continue on Sunday.

Only pilot on board, information requested
According to current knowledge, there was only one pilot and no passenger on board the single-engine plane. If you are looking for a possible crash site, call 01-798 83 80 or the Sölden police station on 059133/7108 if you have any information.
