After all, a guest paid a waiter in Saint-Tropez a tip of 500 euros – but apparently that was not enough for him. The restaurant employee follows the man to the parking lot – and demands at least double.
A wealthy Italian dined at a prestigious restaurant in the glamorous resort town of Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera. When paying, the guest wanted to tip the waiter 500 euros, which was far too little for the employee. He then followed the Italian to the parking lot and asked him to give him another 500 euros so that the tip would amount to 20 percent of the bill, reports the local newspaper “Nice Matin”.
“He thought he had been generous”
The Italian guest was quite upset after the incident and described his suffering to a French friend, who eventually made the story public. “He thought he was generous when he left 500 euros, instead he was reprimanded,” says the friend – he therefore does not want to travel to Saint-Tropez in the future.
Minimum turnover per person
But not only the tipping requirements seem to be high in the resort. As other people reported to the newspaper, there should be a minimum turnover of 1,500 euros per person in some restaurants. In other parts of the French Riviera a minimum of 10,000 euros per guest must even be taken into account.
