An undeclared Easter fire had dangerous consequences on Holy Saturday in Deutschfeistritz (Graz area). The farm owner, 58, left it unattended after it allegedly burned down – and the roof of his pigsty caught fire. He must have underestimated the strong wind.
Around 3 p.m., the 58-year-old lit an Easter fire on his farm in Deutschfeistritz – but without registration and just 20 meters from the stable building. He probably underestimated the danger and left the fire unattended when he thought it had burned out.
The roof of the pigsty caught fire
But the strong south wind thwarted the Styrian’s plans: sparks flew on the roof of his pigsty. Suddenly, several wooden beams of the building caught fire. When he discovered the fire, he immediately started extinguishing the fire himself and alerted the emergency services.
Four fire brigades with 70 men arrived on site to prevent worse. But before they arrived, the fire was under control. Only follow-up extinguishing work had to be carried out. The extent of the damage has not yet been determined, a report is being made to the farm owner.
