Passerby called police – Vienna: Man wanted to sell puppies in fruit boxes

Date:

A passerby in Vienna-Ottakring was shocked on Saturday: The woman discovered a young man on Neulerchenfelder Straße who had offered to buy two puppies in a fruit box. The police were alerted on suspicion of illegal puppy trafficking.

It was already after 7 p.m. when the woman noticed the young man with the animals on the street. When she confronted him, he allegedly explained to her that the two dogs belonged to his father (55) and that they were for sale. The passerby then called the police.

Illegally brought from Slovakia to Austria
Together with an official veterinarian, the alerted officials were able to determine that the two puppies had not been sufficiently vaccinated and had been brought from Slovakia to Austria without permission. “There was also a suspicion of illegal puppy trade,” the Vienna police said on Monday.

The two dogs were taken from the young man’s father and taken to the animal shelter. A complaint was subsequently filed against the 55-year-old.
