Especially in the Enns and Mürz valleys, but also in the Mur valley, numerous roads are still closed the day after the big storm. Tuesday’s strong foehn also had consequences for rail traffic in Styria.
More than 2,000 firefighters worked tirelessly on Easter Monday. After forest fires, a fire watch is sometimes kept until Tuesday morning (for example in Krampen in the Mürztal). The storm left a trail of destruction through Styria. In Ilz, Eastern Styria, the storm even claimed two lives (we reported). The major cleaning after the strong foehn will continue on Tuesday. Numerous road connections are still impassable.
For example, the Lahnsattel Straße (B 23) between Mürzsteg and Terz, the Erlauftal Straße (B 25) between Mosslandl and Gams, the B 75 between Donnersbachwald and Donnersbach, the Gaberl Straße (B 77) between Kleinlobming and Judenburg, the Leobner Straße between Leoben and St. Michael as well as the B 21 between the settlement of Ulrichsberg and Mariazell are only passable in the direction of Lower Austria; the closure is expected to last until Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. In addition, several national roads in Upper Styria are no longer passable.
The storm also continues to impact train traffic: the Ennstalbahn between Schladming and Haus is expected to be interrupted until Thursday (4 April) – as is the Salzkammergutbahn between Obertraun and the Stainach-Irdning train station; according to ÖBB, the disruption should last until Wednesday (April 3) is determined.
