A 33-year-old Tyrolean is said to have defrauded insurance companies for years with false medical and ambulance bills. The damage is enormous, amounting to six figures. Thanks to an attentive employee, the suspected fraudster did not continue to collect incorrectly.
Between October 2019 and November 2023, the scam apparently worked without any problems. According to police, the 33-year-old from the Kufstein district allegedly falsified medical and ambulance invoices and then submitted them to two insurance companies and a private insurer.
In total, he was wrongly paid out more than 100,000 euros during this period.
Original fee invoices have been manipulated
“In concrete terms, he manipulated the original declarations and transport costs invoices issued in his name by using a computer to change the contents of the invoices, such as the date of treatment and transport, the amount of the invoice and the number of treatments.” say the researchers.
An observant employee of one of the affected insurance companies eventually became suspicious. “After you “During the processing of the submitted invoices, it became apparent that the insured had submitted an above-average number of invoices with high invoice amounts. Further checks have been carried out and the manipulations have come to light,” the researchers continue.
Suspect paid money back
This is how the suspect was eventually unmasked. After the 33-year-old was unmasked, he repaired all the damage.
