Date:

After the fatal plane crash on Holy Saturday in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol, the police announced new details on Wednesday. An autopsy has now been carried out on the pilot’s body and the wreckage of the plane has been recovered by helicopter at approximately 2,800 meters above sea level.

The identity of the deceased pilot is now known. As the police explained to the “Krone”, it concerns a 52-year-old German. According to the results of the autopsy conducted at the medical examiner’s office in Innsbruck, he suffered polytrauma in the crash. So he probably died instantly.

Wreck now in the valley
The wreckage of the Cessna 172, which was discovered on Tuesday afternoon in the Stubai Alps, at an altitude of about 2,800 meters in the Schrankogel (Schrankar) area near the Amberger Hütte, was recovered on Wednesday by Heli Tirol with a special helicopter and flown into the valley to Gries im Sulztal. From there it was taken away by truck.

The wreckage is now being extensively examined
The cause of the crash is still “completely unclear”, according to the Tyrolean State Criminal Investigation Department. An expert examines the wreck and draws up a technical report. The investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department is ongoing and the Federal Security Investigation Center is also involved. How long it will take before clarity emerges about the cause of the accident cannot be “seriously” estimated.

Lost contact with pilot
On Holy Saturday, the single-engine Cessna 172 disappeared from radar and contact with the pilot, who was alone on board, was lost. The start took place in Urbe near Rome, the destination airport would have been that of Kaufbeuren-Bad Wörishofen in the Allgäu. Contact was lost around 11:45 a.m. northeast of Sölden.
