A brutal attack on a student in Montpellier shocks France. The girl was beaten and seriously injured by three teenagers in front of her school. A 14-year-old classmate of the victim has already confessed to hitting her.
Education Minister Nicole Belloubet said on BFMTV on Thursday: “There are no words to describe the shock we all felt.” The 13 or 14 year old victim experienced an incredible amount of violence. “This is absolutely inexcusable and despicable.”
The minister said she wanted to know everything about the months, weeks and hours before the attack. An interdepartmental oversight body will conduct an investigation into the college from Friday. President Emmanuel Macron also said that nothing justifies attacking colleagues. He expressed his solidarity with the girl and her family.
Girl temporarily in a coma
The Montpellier Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday afternoon that a student was beaten by three people in front of her school. The girl, who was seriously injured, was now in a coma. A 14-year-old classmate has now confessed to hitting the girl. Two other young people aged 14 and 15 were arrested.
School advised mother to pick up daughter
The mother of the attacked girl told BFMTV that the arrested classmate targeted her daughter and bullied her. The school itself warned her on Tuesday that young people were waiting for her daughter in front of the school grounds and that she had to pick her up. Despite her request, they did not wait for her to arrive but allowed her daughter to leave school early.
The teenagers attacked her daughter around 4 p.m., threw her to the ground and violently kicked her, the victim’s mother reported, citing eyewitnesses. The perpetrators then fled, the woman said.
