A man almost caught fire during a kitchen fire in an apartment in Vienna-Favoriten on Thursday evening. The 31-year-old fled the building with his jacket on fire. Fortunately, he managed to remove his clothes himself.
The fire victim was able to take off his own clothes in the stairwell, the fire brigade and Vienna’s professional rescue service reported on Thursday. The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, burns and suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire probably broke out shortly before midnight in the 31-year-old’s kitchen. His coat probably caught fire.
Tenants had to be taken outside
The fire brigade was present with six vehicles and 27 people. During the incident, other tenants had to be taken outside; eleven of them had to be cared for by the special rescue team. After possible embers were cleared, everyone was able to return to their apartments.
