Senior politician of the Kremlin United Russia party, Governor Andrei Chibis, was seriously injured in a knife attack.
According to investigators, Chibis, governor of the Murmansk region, had a conversation with citizens in the town of Apatity on the Kola Peninsula, after which he was attacked with a knife by a resident.
Attackers are called to action by an ‘inner voice’.
Local media reported that the suspect was a 42-year-old railway worker who said an inner voice had commanded him to attack the governor. He suffered a stab wound in the stomach area. Assassinations of representatives of the power apparatus are generally rare in Russia.
Tschibis reassured his wife before going to the hospital
A spokeswoman for the governor said on Russian state television that Chibis himself went to his car after the attack. He was then taken to the hospital and his wife himself informed her to calm her down. The suspect is being interrogated.
