Interrogations continue – New, even worse suspicion in the Danka case

Date:

Early on, the two men now in custody were strongly suspected of killing the little girl. With the help of telephone surveillance, the two Serbs were eventually arrested by the police. Only an autopsy could provide clarity about what was actually done to the child. Officials fear that the two detainees have not told the whole truth.

The interrogations continue, with the two men confessing to the crime against little Danka on Thursday evening.

They still sometimes give different information about what happened. Only when it comes to certain responsibilities do the two water workers stick to the same versions.

Various stops at manure sites
The 22-month-old girl is said to have bumped into her car – a Fiat Panda, her company car – on March 26; on a country road in the Serbian municipality of Bor, where they were driving at excessive speed and drunk.

One of the perpetrators claims that the child died immediately after the impact. The other, in turn, explains that the little one screamed loudly in pain: “That’s why we had to keep her silent and strangle her.”

Traces of the victim’s blood on the back seat of the Fiat prove that Danka must have been there. It is also clear, based on data analysis of the car’s GPS system, that the two 50-year-olds stopped at a garbage dump a few minutes after the alleged accident.

Where they drove again on March 27 – “to,” as they both now admit, “dig up the small body and then take it to a larger dump.”

This statement is probably true, but the one about the course of the collision is probably not – as lie detector tests seem to show. The police therefore assume that there may be more twists in the case.

As reported, Danka disappeared from the garden of his family’s weekend home last Tuesday. Police then used data from traffic cameras to identify all vehicles in the area in question. And then their drivers and passengers were checked.

Officials ultimately considered seventeen of them suspicious, including the two now detained.

“Haha, the police are really stupid.”
Because they had already been noticed for several drunken quarrels – and because they took part in searches for Danka and were almost too eager for it.

One thing is certain: the mobile phones of the two – like those of fifteen other ‘suspicious people’ – have been tapped since April 30. And when Austrian authorities on Wednesday released a video shot in Vienna of two women and a girl who looks a lot like Danka; a video in which even the parents of the missing child claimed to have recognized their daughter – the perpetrators were relieved.

And they spoke on the phone: “Haha, the police are really stupid and on the wrong track. That’s why nothing can happen to us now.”

A mistake: the police heard the conversation and the two men were arrested shortly afterwards.

Much worse details were feared
They don’t reveal exactly where they dumped their victim’s body. The likely reason for this cover-up: an autopsy on the dead girl could reveal even worse details of the crime than previously known…
