When she bought the lot, Miriam Long was annoyed. She chose the wrong draw, but now she won.
Miriam Long has been playing the lottery for decades, but the American from Christiansburg, Virginia, has never won anything other than small amounts. That didn’t stop her from continuing to fill out lottery tickets and hope. In mid-March, she also typed her lucky numbers into the Virginia Lottery machine as usual. But she ended up accidentally pressing the wrong button.
Left it a faux pass
As always, Long wanted to try her luck in the “Mega Million” game, where the jackpot had now grown to 893 million. At her local drugstore, she entered the numbers into the machine but accidentally didn’t select “Mega Million,” but instead pressed the button for the second lottery variation, “Powerball.” To avoid spending more money on a new banknote, she left her faux pas alone.
Her anger disappeared quickly after the March 18 draw, turning into “an acute racing heart.” Because all their numbers have been drawn, albeit without the extra number. Now Miriam is a million euros richer: “And that’s only because I flipped the switch!”
