From this a previously unknown amount of fuel oil could flow into the open air. According to the police, it not only ended up in the ground, but also in the above-ground canal network that flows into the Gerberbach and also into the Drau.
Neighbors noticed the smell of oil
It was only hours later, shortly after 4 p.m., that a resident noticed the smell of oil in the Gerberbach district and then raised the alarm. The Sillian and Strassen fire brigade then set up an oil barrier and emptied and cleaned a surface water shaft. Those responsible at the district administration subsequently took further measures.
The police are investigating
