A 48-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment in Kiel, Germany on Monday. He had shot his wife, their new boyfriend and a mutual acquaintance.
The 48-year-old dentist committed the crime on May 19. According to the indictment, he first killed his wife and her new boyfriend in Dänischenhagen (Schleswig-Holstein) to “punish” them for their divorce and he for their relationship. He then shot and killed a mutual acquaintance in Kiel, who he blamed for the breakdown of his marriage.
Life imprisonment
On Monday, the Kiel regional court found the man guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. This corresponds to the demands of the public prosecutor and the co-plaintiff. They had also called for a determination of the particular gravity of the guilt.
The German would not have been released on probation after 15 years in prison, but even with a good prognosis would have been in prison indefinitely. The defense pleaded unsuccessfully for manslaughter. This carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
